Dipolognons in Chicago and friends celebrated the feast of their patron saint, Saint Vincent Ferrer on Saturday, 23 May 2009 in Proesel park, Lincolnwood, Illinois. The mass was officiated by Fr. Allan Lastimosa and the visiting Fr. Eric Zafra. (Photos: Joem C. Bayawa/Ambibo Media/USA)
In Edmonton, AB, Canada, Dipolognons and their friends held a similar event at the Sir William Hawrelak’s Park. Thanks to Kooki for the pictures. She writes:
“It was the first Dipolog Fiesta Celebration in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and probably the first Dipolognon Fiesta Celeb held in Canada. Of course, it was organized by yours truly together with Carlo Jauculan and his wife Liza, my sister Chyda and Carlo’s cousin, Ester Manugas. We’re hoping that it will become an annual event here in Edmonton considering that a lot of Dipolognons are already here….”

Viva senyor San Vicente!

Thank you very much Rudy Tagabiasong. With your comment,I became so proud to be part of the working committee led by Fr. Manning Recera.Ang mga guiassign ni Fr. Manning mibuhat sa ilang mga Diosnong tulumanon.Dipolognons and their guests were just having fun after the mass. From infants to the 90′s, were just letting loose in a positive way.The crowd was big and tables were widespread but the feeling of unity was there.Guests who didn’t find the Dipolognons who invited them were still welcomed until they found their friends.Never had it been that cars were double parked yet the guys patrolling the park and the Policemen, who were supposed to order the towing of the cars became considerate and joined in the fun and eating, after seeing the happy and beautiful faces of the Dipolognons. The Dipolognons just really came according to what their hearts dictated. We hope we will continue with this unity, which is really important while we are away from Dipolog, in the name of our Patron Saint, viva Senyor San Vicente Ferrer!

In celebrating our feast, one reason that makes us Dipolognons gather, aside from its religious impact, is because of the free health screening that is made available by White Crane Wellness Center through our very own Ruby Nalzaro, assisted by Gina Oropesa. She should be commended for her untiring effort in making this available, which is really very costly when done in a regular clinic. This health screening will happen again in the same park on August 1, 2009, as the ZAMNAI will hold its annual Hudyaka in Illinois. We will see you there.

i was able to celebrate and experienced the fiesta of Dipolog last May 23rd in Chicago during my vacation last week. i was overwhelmed by the influx of Dipolognons and other people from our province joining in full force for the event. it feels like home seeing my high school classmates, teachers, friends, old familiar happy faces and even neighbors there.dancing chacha, boogie and swing with helen romero, manay dezz, merla ug madelyn makalingaw kaayo. ang pagkaon pay imo gabaha, every table has lots of food ug gaubo nga lechon pod. mikaon man unta ko pag abot sa park, pero feeling nako wa ko mabusog sa kahinangop siguro sa kadanghanan nga taga ato. ug mihabhab bya jud mi nila merla, inday p.ug uban pa sa lechon, mangga gisawsaw sa uyap ug sinugbang isda padulong uli na kay ayha pa gibati sa kagutom.. i really had fun dili ikabaylog piso ug sila pa… sa mga gapasiugda, congratulations for a job well done. am looking forward to be back for hudyaka this August. Viva Senor San Vicente…

To Cookie Guantero, your SMA batch here in Illinois are also active in any activity that could link them to their past, Paul and Tatics, Ging Bernus, etc., it’s good to know you are doing your part there. For us here in Illinois, this was the first year that the feast was spearheaded by Rev. Fr. Manning Recera. The usual leaders for many years, Mam Cita Bajamunde and Rev. Fr.Mannie Duterte are on vacation away from the US, somehow,in their absence,Fr. Recera was able to continue successfully what has been started. Even if he wasn’t able to make it to the day of the feast because of some diocesan responsibilities, members of his working committee did their task; Salvic Ramirez Saavedra, Desiree Ladera Lee, DAUSA President Allan Olarte,Jun Rodriquez, Alex Pellerin, Edsel Pelegrino, Joyce Villanuva Ramirez and her husband Jun, Douglas and Rachel Adasa,Gina Alo,Irwin and Hayley Patangan, pardon me if I have forgotten to mention anyone, the most is Eddie Artajo of Dipolognon.com who has the full coverage of the 9 day-Novena…this really helped disseminate the information, Oh gosh.. how lucky Fr. Manning Recera is to have these people around, motuman man gyod ta ug unsay ipamalihug sa ato ang Pari, di ba,that’s the Marian spirit, by the way, we will see you on August 7,8,9 for the Marian Reunion, meantime, keep it up over there in Canada.
