The Afternoon Sonatina [Piano and Violin Recital and Art Exhibit] arrived at its 17th presentation on March 29, 2009 at the Zamboanga del Norte Convention Center in Dipolog City. Since 1992, the recitals and exhibits have provided the young participants and their audiences a holistic exposure to the arts. Many of the programmes have been graced by various guest performances and violinists from the Peace Philharmonic of the Philippines. This year’s special guest was the world-renowned concert pianist, Ingrid Sala Santamaria, who provided a grand finale to admiring listeners.

The event was attended by Mayor Evelyn Uy, Ambibo’s Aleksi Gumela and Freger Reyes, and people from all walks of life who wished to partake of the cultural activity. The Romanos’ art and music students, and the audience who have experienced the beautiful influence of the arts, are looking forward to another musical and artistic year. (MR)

LUCY SYGACO (with son JohnRey and daughter Lindsay) celebrated her birthday on March 25 with the personnel of the family’s health care businesses in Chicago. “Tita” Lucy was profuse in her praise for her employees and family for their support through the years. Hubby Rey caught up later that day and treated the glowing celebrant to an intimate dinner.

MICHAEL SEVILLA invited family and friends over to the family residence in Niles, Illinois for his birthday on Wednesday, March 25. Calorie watches were let down for the evening as everyone feasted on dad Felipe’s melt-in-your-mouth “balbacoa” among other delicacies. The celebrant’s “mango float” and ” maja blanca” were gone in seconds.

JOEM BAYAWA was reduced to tears as he stepped into a surprise birthday party thrown by sisters Olga and Elke on Saturday, March 21. Close pal Abe Comendador (now on a well-deserved Asian tour) took the celebrant around town while everyone got the place ready for the raucous bash that lasted til midnight.
