“I remember a place… a town… a house like a lot of houses… a yard like a lot of other yards… on a street like a lot of other streets. And the thing is, after all these years, I sill look back… with wonder.”
- Wonder Years
A section of Bonifacio street became a impromptu playground on December 21st as residents came together for old times’ sake in the very first “Estakton” (from Estaka) Reunion . Venus Celicious-Yap (with daughter Meili) played “Ninang” to long time “silingan” along with the dozens of new generation neighborhood kids and guests. Members of the Arocha and Alferez families visited from Manila and Papua New Guinea to take part in what is hoped to be an annual year-end festivity.
In a thank you note, Venus acknowledged the assistance of other “silingan” and friends.
“i would also like to thank tata bengua for donating candies and chocolates for kids candy shower, tatings bandaritas and tent, brenda frasco for the kakanin and ice cream, marisol arocha ate angie and ate jingjing for the 3 lechons shirt donated by marisol.vivian venus and onie ang catering.ricardo yap who gave his time and kids cash prizes.shagit lang ang nakalimtan ha? HAPPY ANG TANAN.sana duna na sad usob.oh! for mayor evelyn uy pala, who closed bonifacio st. for the event.di jud kaigo sa grounds ng bengua oi.hala sunod tuig napud.MALIPAYONG PASKO OG BULAHANG BAG ONG TUIG KANATONG TANAN!..”

in the midst of all the doom and gloom – what a way to celebrate christmas! sharing one’s bounty with your neighbors. an embodiment of the pinoy’s perception of an extended family at it’s noblest and one of those ‘why did we not think of it before’ ideas. i am sure that everyone shares the pride and nostalgic joy armand must feel for what his friends and relatives have accomplished in their immediate neighborhood. natambalan akong kamingaw. salamat.
