Devotees take turn at the traditional dancing for the city’s patron saint at this year’s feast of San Vicente Ferrer at Proesel Park in Skokie, Illinois. A concelebrated mass followed the procession and lunch attended by Dipolognons and their friends from Chicagoland. Visitors also came from as far as New Jersey.

Edwin Mapa was questioned by his sons about our traditional fiesta, for his kids to have grown up in the United States, giving them a verbal reply was still vague, so when he heard that the Dipolognon Devotees of St. Vincent Ferrer in Illinois are celebrating one, he drove almost 12 hours, one way from New Jersey to Illinois with wife Cely to allow his sons to experience first hand the true meaning and essence of the day. For us here in Illinois, we hope to always give our families and friends from other states a very worthwhile visit, as we continue to practice the positive values that we have accustomed to (including abundance of food… by the way, I was looking at the photos, I never saw one with the guy doing all the barbeque, I know he wasn’t originally from Dipolog but he was an excellent answer to the Dipolognon’s desire for warm food during that unseasonably colder day).
