Dr. Claude Lacaya-Adriatico was conferred the Person of the Year (2007) award by Armand Frasco, Founder and Editorial Director of Ambibo.com in a simple, yet fitting ceremony held Saturday, January 26 as part of the website’s 7th Anniversary celebration.
In his remarks, Frasco cited Dr. Adriatico’s contributions to the preservation of our culture and other civic and humanitarian causes.
“Claude Adriatico exemplified the best of a Zanortean. He exemplifies the Ambibo spirit.”
He also noted that although the new Ambibo is a leaner, more matured site it has not forgotten its original mission which is to become an online community for Zanorteans all over the world.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Adriatico flanked by wife Suzy and children Aeia Sue and Benedict Adrian, told the assembled guests of his struggles as an immigrant and the value of hard work, optimism and respect for one’s culture. He acknowledged the award, an antique museum piece carabao’s “yugo” (yoke) as a symbol of our agrarian past and an appropriate reminder of our responsibilities even as we venture far away from home.
The awardee is presently an anesthesiologist at the Springfield Community Hospital in Ohio.
“Ambibo, through the years “, a slide show of photographs from the web site’s past was shown during the event. It is part of the newly-unveiled Ambibo YouTube channel.
Christine Sunogan, with Dodong Calimutan on the guitar took the crowd on a musical journey with a sultry set of popular and nearly-forgotten kundiman.
A hearty “Taste of Zanorte” dinner featuring dishes from budding chefs of the community followed the brief program and everyone proceeded to party, with sounds and effects provided by John Kinjo Ramirez and Eric Damalerio of Brekin Productions.
Ambibo.com wish to thank the Adriatico family for their hospitality, Cyd Adriatico-Fernandez and Desiree Ladera-Lee for putting the activity together and all the guests, donors and sponsors. Donations for the site’s upkeep are welcome. Contact us for more info.
