These fearsome mythical creatures of our childhood imparted lessons of respect, faith and courage. For many of us who are away from home, these quaint reminders of our culture; real or imagined should make us think of ways to pass it on to the young ones so these teachings live on.

ORIGINAL SIGBIN

by junior kilat
lyrics by budoy

kon molakaw magtuad
abtik molayat, kusog molupad
moabante pina-backward
moatras pina-forward

kon ang lakang hinayhinay
abi nimog layo pa day?
pangadye, pagbantay
kay ang iyang kismo makamatay

sigbin! original sigbin
sigbin! original sigbin

ingong sa amerikana, mura kuno og llama
apan ingon sa australyano
mura kuno og kangaroo

ang sigbin murag kanding
matud pa ni titing
molamoy og kalabasa
mokaon og uling

sigbin! original sigbin
sigbin! original sigbin

ang sulti sa katigulangan
panagsa lang siya makit-an
pero kon takdol, ang kanahan
magsuroysuroy sa dalan

susiha, ayaw tan-awa
kamo diha sa backyard nagtambay
basig t-shirt nga hinayhay
sigbin na diay

sigbin! original sigbin

Flashback: Ambibo Air

aair1f.jpg

aair2f.jpg

I stumbled upon some image files from the previous Ambibo site and look what I found. Livery designs for a make-believe Ambibo Air round-the-world trip on one of our anniversaries years back courtesy of our graphic designer Norman Nimer. All three of us (Noah Omamalin, Norman and myself) are still on board after all these years. So with our then FSX Captain Mark Velasco in California, now in college and still dreaming of flying a real aircraft one day.

Over the weekend I attended a family gathering and on the way out, somebody quietly handed me a check, whispering that it was for Ambibo and all the work we’re doing. It amazes me how, after months in hiatus people still recognize and ask about this site. I guess we must have done something right the first time. Noah and I wish all our data were intact. Sadly the old Ambibo is gone now. Rumors of our demise, though is greatly exaggerated. So with that plight (what?) to Mexico.

What remains are memories of all the fun we had and the dogged idealism to start anew. Most of our “Ambibo kids” have gone on to other pursuits and are raising their own little ones now. With day jobs to keep and bills to pay, this revived site will be more like a cafe than the raucous online “carenderia” we used to run. Still cozy but a little more subdued. A perch to watch the world go by and look back, yet always ready to jump on and dance to the current beat.

Salamat for the memories. Let’s make new ones! A bit more casually but still fond.

All aboard!

Happy Birthday Kevin!

dsc_6341f.jpg

Kevin Yebes- Crowley celebrated his 10th birthday today, August 26 with a sumptuous lunch at his Tito Lake and Tita Nurani Icao’s residence in Chicago. Dotting mom Jevy was joined by grandpa Peping, grandma Jojo and other close family and friends.

Delicacies like kinilaw in the pink of freshness, juicy sinugbang panga, crispy lechon kawali kept everyone busy at the table. More guests were arriving as we left, Jevy insisting that we return for dinner later. With all that food and fun company, who can resist?

Kevin is a junior member of the Chicago Dirt Riders and a true blue Chicago Cubs fan. With a video-making veteran for a Tito, you know where this is all leading to.
